Brownlie enjoying life at Thistle

Four days after signing for the club, Darren Brownlie made his debut for Partick Thistle as Ayr came to Maryhill last Friday night and for a while it looked like he would be contributing to our first clean sheet of the league season. However, a contentious second half penalty, won and converted by Alan Forrest, cancelled out Brian Graham’s opener and neither side was able to produce the ill-important winner. Now, the Jags travel to Dundee looking to repeat the heroics of their previous trip to Dens Park this season. Thistle defender, Brownlie, spoke to ptfc.co.uk ahead of the fixture:

“It’s a game we’re looking forward to. We were a bit disappointed with the result last week but we’ll go up to Dundee with plenty of belief looking to get that win that will help us kick on as a group.”

Reflecting further on last week, Brownlie said that the squad felt they deserved the victory based on how they dominated the game for large spells against the Honest Men.

“It definitely felt like two dropped more than one gained, without a doubt. Especially with the penalty which I didn’t think was a penalty at the time and, having seen it back, still don’t think it was. We felt like we created enough to edge it but it wasn’t to be and we now need to be fully focussed on going to Dens and getting a result.”

Darren was still just getting to know a lot of the squad heading into the game last week but there’s no better way to develop relationships with teammates than playing alongside them and he said he loved his first experience as part of the Jags’ defensive unit.

“I really enjoyed getting out there with the guys and I think we did pretty well. We restricted them to very few chances or sights of goal and I think we’ll only get better the more we play together.

“Everyone in the squad has been very good to work with so far and very welcoming. There are plenty of quality players who are very capable of winning games in this league but we need to be consistent every Saturday to pick up more points.”

Brownlie has drawn once and won once against Dundee so far this season with Queen of the South and knows what the Dark Blues will offer as Thistle travel to the City of Discovery.

“I’ve played them a couple of times and they’re obviously a good team with a lot of experience. We beat them at Dens a couple of months ago and it was a crazy end to the game. They’ve not been on the best run as of late but they’ve always got the potential to produce really impressive performances.

“Neither side has been in the best form as of late so I think the first goal will be even more important than usual. It’s always a big thing in this league but the confidence that will come for us if we get it could be vital in helping us play our best stuff and the same would go for them.”
