Partick Thistle Women’s FC was delighted to learn this morning that Cara Henderson has been nominated for the SWPL Player of the Month award for August following a red-hot start to the season in front of goal.
Our number nine becomes the second Thistle player to be put up for the prize, following in the footsteps of Rachel Donaldson who was nominated for the November 2022 award.
Cara’s season could hardly have got off to a better start when she bagged an opening day hat-trick in our 4-0 win over Dundee United which included our opening goal of the 2023/24 campaign after just four minutes.
Her next goal came in our away triumph at Hamilton Accies with Henderson cooly converting a second half spot kick to help Thistle towards an important victory.
She finished August with a double as the Jags put five past Montrose at Petershill Park. The first of the two was down to endeavour and determination as she chased down the visiting goalkeeper and blocked her attempted long ball, redirecting it into the net.
The second goal against Montrose was another spot kick as she showed characteristic composure to pick out the top corner and move to the top of the league’s scoring charts after four games.
