Centenary Fund prize winner Malcolm gives a little back

Our latest Centenary Fund top prize winner is Malcolm Macleod, with the lifelong Jag opting for the cash equivalent prize and promptly making a donation to Glasgow NW Foodbank.

Fife-based Malcolm, 80, was the winner of the October 2022 Centenary Fund draw of a brand-new car, courtesy of club partner Macklin Motors, however chose to transfer his prize to a cash payout.

He has since made two donations to food banks – Glasgow NW Foodbank via Jags for Good and a local foodbank in Fife – donations made in memory of Wilma Harvey, a long-term resident of Maryhill Road, who Malcolm says was a very important figure in his wife’s side of the family.

Malcolm, a Thistle fan since the early 1950s, said: “I honestly didn’t believe it at first when I heard the news but I quite quickly came round to it. It’s a fantastic sum of money and I’m happy to give something back in memory of Wilma.

“I’ve been playing the Centenary Fund for a number of years and have won occasionally, including four signed footballs. They are now scattered all over the world – one in Finland with my brother, one in Orkney, and another in Hamilton Drive near the Botanics which you can see from the street if you look up to the right window.”

Malcolm’s selflessness and generosity, in donating to foodbanks, is nothing new – on his way to catch the train to a certain cup final in 1971, fate would have another plan in store.

Malcolm added: “I almost got to the 71 match. I was due to catch the early morning train from Inverness, where I lived at the time, to Glasgow when I spotted someone I knew in some distress along with their children so I quickly abandoned the train trip to see the match to make sure they were ok and looked after.

“However after the match and result I was taken out in Inverness that same evening by a group of fans of another club and I rather enjoyed myself celebrating the famous win. My brother was at the game and bought me a cup final programme which was nice to have so all was well that ended well!”

Everyone at Firhill and at Macklin Motors would like to congratulate Malcolm and say thank you for those kind and sizeable donations – we hope you enjoy spending the rest of your winnings this winter.
