Cerny knows it’s a must win.

Tomas Cerny admits this weekend’s Betfred cup match against St Mirren is a must win if Thistle are to progress to the next round.

An opening day draw followed by penalty defeat to Livingston leaves The Jags in a precarious position in group H and the goalkeeper is hoping to start rectifying that against St Mirren

Speaking to ptfc.co.uk the Jags number one said: “We are determined to put in a good performance and get the three points. We know the situation, we know we have to win the game and get the three points to put us back on track in the group.

“It’s an important game and we know it will be a tough game. St Mirren are a tough side and they will be up for it. ”

The match signals the first time fans can see their heroes at Firhill this season and Cerny wants to send them home happy.

“It’s the first match at Firhill in front of the home fans so we want to put in a performance for them and send them home happy. However, we are aware it will be a tough match and we have to be at our best.

“We know what we have to do, we were expected to win last week and didn’t so we have to make sure we win the rest of the games if we are to go through in the group.

“The match is on TV so we don’t want to let ourselves down. It feels not long since we finished last season but that shouldn’t be an excuse not to perform to our best. ”

St Mirren lost to Livingston during the week meaning the advantage in the group lies with the West Lothian side and Tomas isn’t sure if the break for Thistle will be a good thing or not

“They played during the week while we had the week off but these things always depend. You can never tell if it will be an advantage or not.”

Jamie Sneddon signed on during the summer to put the number of first team goalkeepers to three and the Thistle number one feels it’s a good thing for competition.

“We have three of us now, competition is always good and we all push each other in training, it’s good to work as a group of three first team goalkeepers so training has been great with Kenny.”
