Clarke and McPherson agree permanent moves to Maryhill

Josh Clarke and Ben McPherson, who will remain on loan with the club until the end of the season, have agreed permanent moves to Maryhill which will take effect following the conclusion of the current campaign.

The pair of youth internationalists made the temporary switch to The Wyre Stadium at Firhill from Parkhead in the summer and have become regular starters for Mark Wilson’s Thistle side with the Jags sitting second in the table at the beginning of February.

Goalkeeper Josh, who had two previous loan spells in the Championship with Ayr United, has started 26 games and kept nine clean sheets this term, playing every minute in the league since making his debut on 9th August against Greenock Morton.

McPherson debuted off the bench in that same game against the Ton and was awarded his first start the following week in a 2-0 Premier Sports Cup win over Ayr United. He’s gone on to make 25 total appearances in Thistle colours, tasting defeat just three times in his 24 starts at the club.

Jags Head Coach Mark Wilson said:

“Securing the services of Josh and Ben beyond the end of this season is a real coup for the club and I’m delighted that they’re both enjoying their time with us.

“One of the goals for us at the start of the season was to create an environment where young players could come in, contribute to what we’re doing right now but also improve and develop at the same time. Josh and Ben choosing to stay here is a sign that we’ve been able to create that environment.”

Thistle Sporting Director Ian Baraclough added:

“We are delighted that Ben and Josh have both committed their immediate futures with Partick Thistle. We have an agreement in place with Celtic, and the players, for us to extend permanently beyond their loans.

“Both players have made a massive impression on the group both on and off the pitch and we look forward to witnessing further development as players whilst bringing success to this football club.”
