Saturday’s Community Champion, with our partners at McDonald’s Maryhill is a lady who is passionate about environmentalism and making the world a better, cleaner place.
Stephanie Kerr is a Planet Champion for McDonalds and has been working with the local community to find ways to save energy, increase recycling and reduce litter every day. Stephanie has gone above and beyond in her role as Planet Champion, contacting a key holder of allotments close to the McDonald’s store on Springburn Road to see if they would be interested in receiving food waste donations. The offer was quickly accepted and the allotment committee collect coffee grounds and egg shells for use within their allotments. Stephanie has continued to forge a strong relationship with the allotment owners and will soon assist them to plant trees which were donated to them by the Lottery Fund.
Aside from her Planet Champion responsibilities, Stephanie works hard in store to make visits more enjoyable for the younger guests to the store. Every Saturday she sets up a table with colouring activities and face paints, with colouring competitions available. Halloween and Christmas saw plenty of fun in store for everyone with regular customers commenting on the friendly atmosphere created within her store.
When Stephanie is not at work, she can be found at university, where Stephanie is currently studying Geography and French. She continues to volunteer within the university on a weekly basis, helping exchange students improve their English which sometimes assists her with her French.
Stephanie’s care for her local community continues to grow and later this year she hopes to host a charity Halloween party for Shelter Scotland as she looks to help make a difference with homelessness within Glasgow.
Having worked passionately to improve the local community, in so many different ways, it is no surprise to see why Stephanie was nominated to be today’s Community Champion. Everyone at Partick Thistle, along with our friends at McDonald’s Maryhill, hope that Stephanie has a great afternoon here at Firhill.
