Saturday’s Community Champion, with our partners at McDonald’s Maryhill, is a young lady who has selflessly given up her own time to volunteer at a range of events throughout Scotland.
Demi-Leigh Boyle is a Maryhill resident who has been volunteering with Police Scotland Youth Volunteers for just over a year, completing a total of 94 hours of voluntary work.
During the course of her 12 months volunteering, Demi-Leigh has participated in a number of events helping to make the community a safer place for young people. From carrying out a leaflet drop in the Maryhill area to reduce break ins to attending a hate crime conference at Hampden Park with Senior Police Scotland Management, Demi-Leigh’s volunteering has provided her with a range of experiences on all aspects of raising awareness. She has also supported local charities, such as East Park, by carrying out a leaflet drop for them as well as supporting a local family fun day run by NG Homes.
She also participated in the making of a safety online social media video for groups associated with Police Scotland Youth Volunteers and provided peer-educated for the national campaign of “No knives, Better lives” campaign which is aimed at reducing knife crime in Scotland. She spent time at St John Hall supporting the Choices for Life initiative which educates to young people about alcohol, drugs and keeping safe.
Demi-Leigh has not just been restricted to the Maryhill area with her volunteering and she spent time at George Square facilitating an event called “Real McCoy” which highlighted the seriousness of counterfeit goods. In addition, Demi-Leigh attended the Edinburgh Tattoo carrying out duties of showing patrons to their seats and assisting disabled patrons.
The Riverside museum was the site of the Emergency Road show which Demi-Leigh supported. During her time as a volunteer, Demi-Leigh has also been trained on first aid and CPR by the British Red Cross.
Having selflessly given up her own time to volunteer with Police Scotland Youth Volunteers, in so many different ways, it is no surprise to see why Demi-Leigh was nominated to be today’s Community Champion. Everyone at Partick Thistle, along with our friends at McDonald’s Maryhill, hope that Demi-Leigh has a great afternoon here at Firhill.
