Community Champion with McDonalds Maryhill

Tomorrow afternoon’s Community Champion, with our partners at McDonalds Maryhill, is a gentleman who has worked hard to set up a charity aimed at helping men in the local community.

Dan Proverbs was nominated for this afternoon’s award by Graham Wilson, a regular in the Ambassador’s Lounge in the Jackie Husband Stand. Graham nominated Dan because of his hard work, passion and dedication to do something about men’s mental health in Scotland. He is dedicated to building a fabulous charity which will change people’s life and, for Graham, it’s a pleasure to be involved in the journey.

At 40 years old, Dan suffered from mental health problems and after a battle was able to seek the help he needed. As he looked for support in his darkest moments, he noticed that there wasn’t a specific charity for men’s mental health in Scotland and he sought to remedy that.

Brothers in Arms is a project based in East Dunbartonshire, which is aimed at providing info, support and advice to men of any age, who are down or in crisis and dedicates itself to preventing male suicide. While the platform is primarily aged at the 16 to 45 demographic, it is designed for men of any age to seek help, advice and to know that they are not alone.

The charity was launched at the Milngavie Classic Car Show in 2017 and Dan has had support from See Me Scotland and the East Dunbartonshire Association for Mental Health.

Through time, Dan hopes that Brothers in Arms will grow to be available throughout Scotland enabling other like-minded communities to create their own hubs using Brothers in Arms as a template for information and support.

Tomorrow afternoon Dan will be recognised, alongside our partners at McDonalds Maryhill, as a real Community Champion.
