David Elliot- “It’s going to be a tough game against Aberdeen”

The Jags are back in action this week, as game week 4 sees the squad travel away to Aberdeen. Following last week’s challenges, the team is eager to regroup.

It has been a tough start to the season for Thistle, who have seen one win from three games. Despite these results, the team remains determined.

The squad began their campaign with a win over Hamilton but have since been on the receiving end of some large scorelines at the hands of Hibernian and Celtic. This mixture of results has set the tone for continued hard work.

With the squad back in training ahead of the clash up North, Elliot has given an update on how the girls are feeling and preparing.

Everybody’s doing good, we have had a really good training week after the disappointment of last Sunday.

“The girls have worked hard, and they have come in with a bit of a spring in their step, ready to go for the next one.”

The two sides last faced off in May of this year, with Aberdeen taking all three points in a 2-0 victory away from home.

Both teams have had difficult starts, with Aberdeen matching Thistle’s form so far. This sets up a tough challenge for both teams, each desperate to claim points in this early stage of the season.

Elliot also commented on the importance of the squad learning from their previous mistakes, and how it can help the squad out on the pitch and bring them closer as teammates.

“It is a constant learning process, but I think they are still learning about each other as well. It’s a new team, there are new girls, they are learning about each other’s attributes, how quick we are, and their best foot. They are just constantly learning about each other. the weak points as well as the strong points. It is the case of learning from everything you do”

The 142-mile round trip presents its own challenges, with players having to remain focused and in the zone. However, David Elliot spoke about how it encourages more bonding among his team.

“Sometimes those long journeys are really great for getting to know each other away from the training pitch. A lot of them just come here for an hour and a half on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and they know each other around then.

“It is nice to sit and chill out on a bus, get to know each other a wee bit better. They can ask questions to each other and the coaches that are on the bus if there are a few wee bits we need to clarify before the game.”

The Jags face an important match up this Sunday against Aberdeen.

Kick-off is at 1:00pm at Balmoral Stadium
