Partick Thistle Football Club is pleased to announce that goalkeeper David Mitchell has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal with the Jags, subject to Scottish FA clearance.
Mitchell, whose existing contract was due to run out this summer, will now return for a third season in Maryhill having originally joined the club from Hibernian in 2022.
In his two campaigns so far with us, David has racked up exactly 50 appearances and kept 17 clean sheets in all competitions – the most recent of which came in a goalless draw with Ayr United at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill.
The former Stranraer and Falkirk ‘keeper played a key role in Thistle’s strong end to the league season defensively, contributing to five shutouts in six games during March and April.
Jags manager Kris Doolan said:
“I’m so pleased to be welcoming David back for another season with us here at Firhill. The past year has probably been a frustrating one for him with a couple of injuries that he’s picked up but he came back into the team at the end of the season and played brilliantly.
“On the pitch, he’s a great communicator who knows how to make big saves in big moments and, on top of that, he’s a great professional who brings a lot of experience to the team.
“Last season we were left playing catch-up over the summer but we feel like we’re in a better position this year. We’ve got the basis of a very strong squad in place already and the hard work is ongoing to keep adding to that over the coming weeks and months.”
