Following a massive victory against Airdrie in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup, Jags captain Ross Docherty sat down with ptfc.co.uk to give his thoughts ahead of this Saturday’s game against Arbroath:
“We’re feeling good, there’s a good vibe about the place right now; I think we’ve had a good run of results for the last however many games. It’ll be tough going there but we go there with confidence.”
Docherty pondered over the previous two defeats to Arbroath and gave his opinion on what the team could do better to get a result this time.
“I think we need to manage the game a bit better. I think if you give Arbroath chances to cross the ball and set pieces and all that they’re more often than not going to punish you. So I think we’ve got to manage that better and I think we will create our own chances as well. We’ve done that in the previous two games so we just need to be patient in that regard.”
Ross then reflected on the positive result against Airdrieonians and what that result says about the team.
“I think it shows good resilience, we already knew that in terms of the clean sheet record we’ve had this season. I think the way it went down and especially the way Airdrie play, they fling loads of players at you and just go for it, so it’s not easy playing against that and when your playing with 10 men for over half an hour it’s never easy. The fact that we went on to create more chances in the game even when we went down to 10 shows that we know how to dig results out.”
The Jags fans were back in unrestricted numbers at the weekend with almost 3,000 fans at Firhill in total for the game and the skipper finished by looking back on the return of the Red and Yellow Army.
“It was great, there was obviously a big following from the Airdrie fans as well so our fans needed to be loud and they were which kept us pushing. We’re going to need that going forward if we’re going to have a positive end to the season.”
