Doolan taking the positives

Kris Doolan admits the defeat to Inverness was a tough one to take. After an improved performance a wonder strike from Inverness saw Thistle take nothing from the game.

However, the striker was at least able to take some positives from the game when ptfc.co.uk caught up with him after the full time.

He said: “We’re gutted after that one. It’s probably the best we’ve played in quite a while and to take nothing from the game is hugely disappointing

“It took a good goal from them to win it and it was always going to take something like that to beat us given the way we played.”

Thistle could have found themselves well ahead at the break but weren’t able to capitalize on their dominance and were forced to pay midway through the second half.

Doolan knows it was the failure to get the ball in the net which cost the Jags.

“There are a number of positives to take from the game, we created a number of chances and we’ve not been doing that recently. However when we get them we really need to be taking them because when you don’t you saw today what can happen to you.

“We have to continue to show the hunger and desire that we showed today, we needed a reaction after the display last week and I thought we got that, especially in the first half. We need to continue to show that and maybe show a bit more in front of goal.

“When you are flying high they are the sort of goals that go for you and the games you win, but as we saw when you aren’t going well it always seems to go against you.”

Next up is a huge match against Falkirk and Kris is hoping to go out and build on the positives he saw in the performance.

“We have to take the positives from the game but also learn from it, we have to improve and start getting results – we know that.

“Next week is a huge game. It was always going to be but after the results and the way the table looks, it makes it even bigger.  We go there and will look to build on today’s performance and take the points that will give us something to build on.

“We still have a lot to work on and we’ll do that this week, we’ll build on positives but also look to make them count next week. The full focus has to be on taking all three points – whatever it takes.”
