Ryan Edwards was disappointed not to be coming out to talk about a Thistle win and an Edwards goal after Thistle were defeated by Rangers at The Energy Check Stadium at Firhill.
Edwards had the ball in the net in the first half but the flag went up for offside, replays suggest he may have been onside and Edwards was left wondering what might have been.
Speaking to ptfc.co.uk after the game, he said: “It’s disappointing to come away again having taken nothing from the game. I thought we put everything into it first half and were the better team.
“We started brightly and had the better chances but one little defensive lapse and they score. They can do that to you, they showed their quality when it counts, they’ve taken the chance and that’s why they are further up the table than we are at the moment.”
The moment that left Edwards wondering came at 0-0 when the midfielder volleyed a Conor Sammon knock on into the net. TV pictures show Edwards was played onside but the assistant had his flag up. Ryan knows how important that could have been
“The game changed when they scored, we were on top, It just shows how important scoring the first goal in this league is.
“I’ve had the ball in the net, I’ve watched it back and I think I’m onside which makes it really disappointing. I’ve managed to finish it and we could have been ahead and that could have changed the entire game. We’ve had a really positive start to the game and we deserved to be ahead but for that decision we would have been.”
Despite the defeat the midfielder is taking a lot of positives from the game and performance ahead of a trip across the city for the Scottish Cup tie against Celtic.
“We take the positives from the game, we performed well, we stayed in the game and caused them problems so it’s another good performance that we will build on and hopefully we can take that into Saturday.
“It’s a cup game, we’ll go and do our best and anything can happen. It’s a one off game, we have nothing to lose. We have shown we can match anyone so we go in with confidence.
“We have three important games in the league after that but we’ll enjoy the cup first and then start to prepare ourselves ahead of those games.”
