It is a Friday night under the lights at Petershill, as Thistle welcome the champions Hibernian in their first home match of the season—an early test against last year’s title winners.
The Jags kicked off their campaign last Sunday with an imperative away victory at Hamilton, which saw Erin Rennie win the game right at the death. Carrying that momentum, Friday’s match offers Thistle a chance to make a statement against the reigning champions.
As preparations continued back on the training field, David Elliot spoke to the media about the match’s significance.
“The girls are still on a high from Sunday,” stated Elliot.
“We are really looking forward to welcoming Hibs, they are champions, they are a good team. I watched their game against Aberdeen. They’ve got really good players, they work well together, and they’re well organised. It is going to be a difficult game for us, but one we will go to and be confident of getting three points.”
Recent history favours Hibernian, who have won 4 of their last 5 meetings against the Jags, scoring a combined 12 goals.

Elliot has noted the importance of nullifying the champions’ firepower and making their mark on the match.
“It is really important we start the game well; it is really important we defend well, and win all the individual battles within the game, it is really important we make our mark at the other end of the pitch.
“We have some really good attackers, we’ve got attacking threats, we’ve got good balls into the box.”
With it being the Jags’ first home game of the season, the players are keenly aware of the value of fan support. Midfielder Rebecca McAllister spoke on how important it is to get fans back in Petershill.
“I have been lucky enough to play in a few games here with Partick Thistle that we’ve had big home attendances, and it’s really helped us, really lifted our spirits.
“Our crowd in particular is really loud; you always hear them. So hopefully we can get a good crowd on Friday, and we can put on a good show for them”.

David Elliot also rounded off his interview with a simple message regarding the importance of supporters within the ground.
“I ask the fans, come and support your team. The girls would really look forward to that, they are looking forward to their first home game. Hopefully we can get a good crowd in”.
Kick-off is at 19:45 tonight at Petershill Park. Tickets are still on sale HERE
