Elliot and Robinson: Togetherness can get us three points.

Hannah Robinson and David Elliot faced the media ahead of the Glasgow derby at Petershill.

A tough opening home game saw Thistle on the receiving end of a 5-0 defeat at the hands of league winners Hibernian.

With a new game week here, the squad are looking to put things right and halve the belief they can all three points this Sunday in this tough match against Celtic

Robinson described how the squad prepared for an important game against Celtic in training.

“Training has been decent, I think every week is just getting better and better, the more we train with each other, the more we get to know each other.

“I think going into Sunday, we just need to all have that togetherness because we know it’s going to be a tough game. It is definitely something we can take to the game, and we can definitely take points off them if we do group together”

The defender also emphasized the importance of a good mindset and belief on the pitch. Players must adopt these key characteristics to gain points off Celtic.

“With any team in the league, no game is guaranteed. This season has especially gotten tougher. As long as we have that belief, as a team and a unit, we can take on anybody. As long as we believe in each other as a group. It will be a good game this weekend.”

As match day approaches, Elliot shared the excitement within the squad and described how the players feel ahead of an imperative match.

“Very much looking forward to it. Everybody’s hopefully going to rise to the challenge of playing against another big team in the league. We’ve trained well after the disappointment of Friday night.

“So everybody’s looking forward to getting in about it, and getting another match in”

Reflecting on Friday’s performance, Elliot discussed the positives he saw in the match and identified aspects his squad must improve.

“Loads of positives, probably more positives than negatives. Obviously, the negatives were the 5 goals we lost. We started the game really well, and we passed the ball around really well.

“The only problem was that we didn’t really create in the final third. Hopefully, the things we worked on in training this week will allow us to force Celtic back a little bit and get some shots on goal, crosses in which we can attack, and hopefully sneak a goal or two.”

Celtic arrive at Petershill with a perfect start to the season, having scored 7 goals in 2 games.

The two sides last played a 4-2 defeat away in Hamilton.

With the electric atmosphere back in Petershill, Elliot again stressed the importance of making the ground a fortress for the opposition.

“I said it to the girls last week, let’s make this a difficult place to come. Make sure it is not enjoyable for people to come, and make sure people don’t win here.

“It is a really good pitch; it is good for everybody. But let’s make it so that we enjoy it more than them”.

Kick off is at 1pm
