Elliott: Looking to continue run

Friday night football returns to Firhill as Aberdeen visit Glasgow with Thistle looking for their third win in a row.

Christie Elliott has been involved in the last two wins, coming in at right wing back in a new formation and he is looking forward to the game

“The boys are flying after the past two results. The confidence is flowing through the team and it makes a massive difference.

“Even before the last two wins, we drew the two games before that so we are unbeaten in the last four and we want to keep that run going.

“It shows what a difference a couple of wins can do, we had been playing well but just not getting the results we deserved so to finally do that in the last few games is great.”

Abdul Osman grabbed the late winner against St Johnstone, a goal that led to jubilation for both the players and the travelling Thistle support and it was a moment Elliott enjoyed

“Getting the late goal was amazing, everyone was going mad once it hit the net. It’s obviously gutting when you are losing the late goals, you play all match then lose a goal late on so to have it from the other side was great and it’s just given us another boost.”

Elliott is enjoying playing in his new role and it’s a role he feels suits him and utilises all his attributes

“I’m really enjoying playing at right wing back. I think it really suits me and I feel I’m doing well there. I was always asked before if I was a right winger or right back and this way I get to play a mix of both and I enjoy it. I get a lot of the ball and get to try and get forward so it’s great.

“It’s a new system we are playing and we are improving each game. As we play it more and get used to it we will play even better. It has made us look tighter at the back but allowed us to get forward and create chances which we have been taking which is important.”

Playing on a Friday is something Christie enjoys and with Thistle having some memorable Friday night moments he is hoping for more against Aberdeen

“I enjoying playing Friday nights, it’s great to be under the floodlights at Firhill with a good crowd behind you. I think the fans enjoy Friday night games, it gives them something to look forward to at work and they always support us. It makes a big difference them supporting us and gives us that little extra push which can hopefully make the difference.

“It’s different playing on the Friday night, your routine is different, on Saturdays you are up and then leave but on Friday nights you have the full day and you aren’t quite sure what to do with yourself.”

Aberdeen are on a poor run of form and while Elliott feels we need to take advantage of that he knows the players can’t be complacent

“Aberdeen have lost their last two but they are one of the best teams in the league, we know that but we would rather be playing them just now especially with the run of form we are on. We have to start the game well and make the most of their low confidence. We know we have to play well but we feel we can beat anyone just now.

“Aberdeen have a lot of good players, especially out wide so I know I have to perform but I know we are a team and we play as one so if I go forward someone fills in, the system works well for us and we will go out looking for a performance and another win”

With no one else playing it gives Thistle the chance to move into the top six for 24 hours at least and that’s a big incentive according to the Geordie

“It will be the opportunity to go out and put pressure on everyone else. If we can win then we will move up the table and pressure is then on the teams around us to try and win their games. You aren’t coming off and looking at any other results and if you win you can then sit back and relax for the entire weekend knowing you’ve done what you need to do.”
