End of season statement from the chairman

Wednesday 18th May 2016 at 10:54

Well, here we are, the end of another season at Firhill – and what a season it has been!

There is no doubt that it has been a season of ups and downs, a roller coaster in the truest sense of the phrase. Despite the poor start and the disappointment of missing out on the top six we have, as a club, made huge strides over the last 12 months. The positives definitely outweigh the negatives.

We launched our new sponsorship with Kingsford Capital Management and, of course, introduced Kingsley to the world; we achieved debt free status; secured new investment; we created the Partick Thistle Football Club Trust; our management team signed a long term contract, along with key players; we saw the growing success of our fledgling Youth Academy; and, crucially, we retained our top flight status.

As a club and as a board, we set very clear targets at the beginning of the season to be progressive, financially stable and ambitious. The above achievements show that we have been true to those targets. As a result, we end this season in a great place, ready to build and push on from here next season. But there’s no complacency, just a quiet confidence and an increased professionalism across the club that will be crucial to our success in the next year.

We aren’t playing at this, we came close to a top six finish this year and it, combined with progression in the cups, is a realistic aspiration for next season. But we cannot achieve that without your help. Without you, the fans, this club would be nothing. You’ve been here for us when times were hard, when the club almost ceased to exist – and we will never forget that. However, we need you to stand with us, shoulder to shoulder, during the good times too as we build our support in what’s going to be a hard but very important season for us.

Back us, back the manager and back the players because, together, we can do something very special.

Together, we are Thistle.

Mon the Jags!
