Four Jags in the PFA Scotland Championship Team of the Year

Last week we heard the news that our number seven Scott Tiffoney had been nominated for the PFA Scotland Championship Player of the Year award and this week we’ve had more good news in the same vein.

Four of our players have been selected in the 2022 PFA Scotland Championship Team of the Year – more than any other team in the division!

Firstly, Kevin Holt has been picked as one of the four defenders in the line-up. Holt, who has started 33 of our 35 games in the league this season, joined the club last summer and has been an integral part of the side in his first season as a Jag.

Playing admirably at both left-back and centre-half at different points of the season, the ex-Dundee man has also chipped in with four important league goals along the way including winners against Inverness and Queen of the South early last month.

Lewis Mayo has also been selected as part of the Team of the Year backline. The number four played 34 times for us this season all in all, contributing to 17 clean sheets in those games.

The 22-year-old has been able to form strong partnerships with both Kevin Holt and Tunji Akinola throughout the season, continually improving his game in his second spell as a Jag. He also managed to grab his first senior goal this season; a winner against Hamilton Accies at Firhill.

Unsurprisingly, the man nominated for the Player of the Year award, Scott Tiffoney, has also earned a place in the Team of the Year. The winger has amassed five goals and five assists during the current campaign, offering a unique and exciting threat whenever he’s on the pitch.

He set the tone for his season early on with the winning goal against Queen of the South on cinch Championship opening weekend as he came off the bench and struck in the 86th minute. His most recent goal also came against the Doonhamers – a terrific counter-attacking goal during which his blistering pace was on show for all to see.

The final Thistle man in the Team of the Year is our top goalscorer, Brian Graham. The frontman has been the Jags’ go-to man for goals this season with 13 in the league and 18 in all competitions. Like Tiffoney, he got his scoring started early with a double in that opening day thriller against Queen of the South off the back of four goals in four Premier Sports Cup group stage games.

There have been plenty of highlights for the number nine this season but his best moments include a two-goal and two-assist performance at Hamilton Accies in October and a hat-trick against Inverness in February.

Congratulations to Kevin, Lewis, Scott and Brian for a fantastic season!
