Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw with Queen of the South saw the Jags record their first clean sheet of the league campaign with a solid defensive showing against the Doonhamers. Jags keeper Scott Fox spoke to ptfc.co.uk shortly after the full time whistle.
“It’s good to get the clean sheet but obviously it is about getting points at this stage of the season. I’d have taken a 2-1 or a 3-2 win if it had meant we got all three points. If you look at the positives from the game, we got a clean sheet. I think we looked solid at the back and we created a lot of chances in the game as well. It was one of those games where the ball just won’t go into the net but of course, it’s all about getting results now.”
Despite only picking up a point, the Jags number 22 thinks the defensive showing was encouraging and provides a base to build on moving forward.
“We are all disappointed that we couldn’t win the game but I think you need to look forward. It’s done, we can’t change it now, we need to take positives from it. We looked solid at the back and a real threat going forward. It’s a base to build from and hopefully in future games we can take a few chances when they come our way.”
The Thistle goalkeeper didn’t have much to do during the match, with a good defensive showing restricting the Doonhamers opportunities.
“I think there was only one real moment in the second half where I had to make a save because we had that good base in defence to work from. If we don’t concede a goal we’ll take at least a point and we can work from there.
“I think in the second half we dominated the match. We had the chances that we needed but it was good saves or woodwork or just not going in for us and sometimes that happens in football. It was one of those nights when Mayo has hit the post with a great header and it’s spun back out rather than going into the net.”
With a huge run of fixtures looming, Fox is just looking ahead to Saturday’s trip to Tannadice.
“We know the next three weeks are really big. We know where United are in the league table and they deserve to be there but this league is one where anyone can beat anyone. We’ll look at positives and build a game plan over the next couple of days and look forward to going to Tannadice.”
