FUNDING TO THISTLE WEIR YOUTH ACADEMY RESTARTS

Funding for the Thistle Weir Youth Academy is to restart in light of Colin Weir’s return to the Club, following Three Black Cats, a company owned by him, buying a majority shareholding in the Club.

This means that the Academy is funded from now until 2021 as originally planned. Mr Weir is also giving funds to the PTFC Women’s team over the same period to support their push for promotion to the top league in Scottish women’s football.

Scott Allison, who leads the Academy, said:

“This is very welcome news. It allows us to carry on with our programmes as planned but more importantly, it gives us stability after a period of uncertainty. I am grateful to Colin for continuing to support us and we will ensure his belief in us is repaid with ongoing success.”

Beth Adamson, joint coach for the women’s team, added:

“Colin’s offer of funding came out of the blue and will transform our next two seasons. We can further professionalize the women’s club, including beginning to compete for players going forward. We have huge ambition for the team and this injection of money has come just at the right time to help us make our plans a reality.”
