Partick Thistle Football Club are delighted to announce Gordon Miller as the winner of February’s Volunteer of the Month.
Gordon, who has been part of the Maintenance and Facilities Team, since answering a call for help just after Covid period, knows his way around The Wyre Stadium at Firhill as he has been coming to it for nearly 70 years.
“I have been a life-long fan since coming here with my dad for the first time in 1957 and watching a 3-0 win over Falkirk.” Said Gordon before adding: “As well as still being a fan I am presently involved in a big project repairing seats in the Jackie Husband Stand. There are probably over a thousand still needing attention and I am steadily working my way through them .”
“I will also turn my hand to whatever else is needed for example I was working on one of the turnstiles last week. Also, if something has not moved in the last four years it’s fair bet that Eddie Lyons and I have painted it.”
Gordon, who was presented with his award by General Manager Levi Gill, took more than a passing interest in Partick Thistle Women’s Team captain Demi Falconer’s story last week about becoming a stem-cell donor, through the stem-cell charity Anthony Nolan.
Stem-cell donation is a form of treatment for blood cancers and disorders and can transform the life prospects of those affected with Gordon saying: “I have a blood cancer which I was diagnosed with last August. I am going through a programme of chemotherapy and managing still to do a couple of days here at the ground.”
“What Demi has done for someone she will never know is absolutely incredible.”
“I enjoy being part of the volunteer team here. There is a good bunch of people here and the club does value its volunteers and is committed to new and imaginative ways to show that.”
Volunteers nominated in February – Ian Bateman, Robbie Cassidy, Craig Dunn, Donna Ingles, Eddie Lyons, Ella Miller, Hannah McKenzie, Nicola McLaren, Drew Richardson, Robert Richardson, Billy Thomson, Aileen Wright.
