All at Partick Thistle were saddened to hear of the recent passing of Hugh Porter, a lifelong supporter of the Club.
The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with Hugh’s family and friends at this sad time.
My lifelong friend Hugh Porter loved The Mighty Jags so much, he even got married at the club. He followed Thistle home and away in the early 1990s, then less frequently but just as fervently from London after moving south.
We flew up to Inverness to celebrate promotion in 2002 and were regaled by Mr Lambie singing Follow Thistle from the pitch, even though we got cuffed 3-0. We were starstruck outside Dens once when we were handed random comps by the great man himself.
Lovely memories of the highs and lows over the years – shared with Scott, Big Kenny, Carol, Steff, David, Nibs, Gordon, Midge, Colin, Deke, Cammy, Lori, Peter and Bafe.
When Hugh, or Shug, married Susan at Firhill in the summer of 2000, their guests got to sit in the dugout during filming of a football-based episode of Taggart. Many still talk about it.
In January 2023, at the age of 53 and by now a loving dad to Maggie and Hamish, Shug finally lost his battle with cancer. He was my best mate and he will be much missed by so many people, at the games and beyond.
