It was a night of celebration for the recently formed Partick Thistle amputee football team as they scooped Team Performance of the Year at the inaugural Nordoff Robbins Scotland Sporting Awards.
The star studded ceremony honoured sporting stars from across Scotland at every level from amateur right up to world class and the Jags amputee team was right up there with them.
Sunday Post columnist and massive Jags fan, Ross King, sent a special video all the way from LA to congratulate the team and Paul Kelly, along with Kevin Kelly from the Partick Thistle Community Trust were presented with the trophy by Sunday Post golfing columnist Bernard Gallacher.
Partick Thistle Community Trust manager, Paul Kelly said: “It’s an absolute honour to receive this award but it is really testament to the hard work and dedication that is put in by our players and coaches. It has been a fantastic first season so far and I can only hope that the popularity of amputee football north of the border continues to grow.”
Partick Thistle Amputees FC was set up as a collaboration between Partick Thistle Community Trust and amputee charity, Finding Your Feet. The side play in the EAFA Irwin Mitchell Amputee Football League and the next round of fixtures is this Saturday when the Jags will take on teams from UL Sports, Everton and Manchester City.
