Last week saw the launch of Jags For Good, a new independent, fans-led initiative aiming to mobilise Thistle fans for social justice causes in Maryhill and across Glasgow. As well as a fundraiser to buy season tickets for local charities like Maryhill Integration Network, the group also staged a foodbank donation drive at Saturday’s game against Dunfermline; collecting food and cash donations for Glasgow North West Foodbank.
The response to the donation drive was overwhelmingly positive, with both Jags and Pars fans contributing generously. In total, food donations totalled almost half a tonne while £1074 was donated in cash. Ross Millar, one of the fans involved in organising Jags For Good, said:
“Thank you to everyone who gave so generously to our foodbank donation drive on Saturday. The fact that so much food and cash was donated is testament to the solidarity of Thistle fans with local communities. These donations will support the incredible work of Glasgow North West Foodbank, who we hope to continue supporting at future matches at Firhill.
Our season ticket fundraiser is also ongoing, with almost £6,000 raised so far. We want to make sure Firhill is open to all, so any continued support that people can provide – whether through donating directly or just sharing our appeal online or with friends – would be fantastic.”
