After a disappointing defeat against Greenock Morton, Partick Thistle look to regain footing and deliver a positive result against Raith Rovers this weekend. Thistle forward Alex Jakubiak sat down with ptfc.co.uk to give us his thoughts leading into the game:
“Despite the result the other day I think we’re confident going into it. Obviously we’re coming into it off the back of a loss, but I think we showed a good level of performance. Bar the goal, I think they had one shot on target and it was a free kick so I think we showed defensively we were strong, it’s just in that final third, something just needs to click for us. Maybe it’s a bit of luck but we are confident going to Raith Rovers.”
Jakubiak expanded upon the loss and the frustration that himself and the team were feeling following the game.
“It can’t get much more frustrating in football. We pretty much dominated the majority of the game, and it’s just about making it count because when you are on top, all it takes is for them to get one set piece, one ball in our box and we’ve conceded and we lost the game from it. It shows that when you are on top you’ve got to make that territory and that possession count.”
Alex wants to look forward to Raith instead of dwelling on the loss.
“I think we’ve already gotten past it; the game is done now and there is nothing we can do about the result. All we can do is look forward to the next game so the fact it has come so soon is only a positive for us.”
Jakubiak is looking forward to his first game against Raith in a Thistle top having previously played against them for Dundee.
“I played against them a few times last season, I know what they’re about. They’re a good footballing side, they’ve got an artificial pitch which I think will suit us. Hopefully there’s a bit of rain to make it wet and zippy so we can get the ball down and play because that’s definitely one of our strengths. We know they’ll be a good side but we’ve just got to focus on ourselves and what we can do.”
Alex talks about his first few games for Thistle and what it means to be starting games.
“For myself, I haven’t hit the target yet, that’s obviously frustrating. I’m trying to hit the ground running as soon as I can so I thank the manager for giving me the opportunity to start the games because it’s something I’ve not had in a few years for different reasons like injuries and things like that. Now I’m just hoping to repay that faith with a goal tomorrow.”
Having been at Firhill for around a month now Alex discusses settling into the club and how his experience has been thus far.
“The first few days I felt settled. It’s just the group of boys we’ve got here, the staff here and just the way club is that has made it so easy to settle in. There are no egos or anything and everyone is on a level playing field, it’s been really easy to just come in and get down and get working.”
