On 3rd December 2022 Jamie Sneddon became the first ever Partick Thistle goalkeeper to score a non-penalty goal during a game as he headed home a 96th minute equaliser against Cove Rangers and now the shot-stopper has made more Jags history by winning the SPFL Goal of the Month prize; the first Thistle player to win the award.
With his side trailing 1-0 at Balmoral Stadium, Jamie made the long jog forward that so many goalkeepers have made to no avail but Sneddon’s jaunt into the Cove box would bear precious fruits.
Stuart Bannigan’s corner kick landed right on the number one’s head and with calmness of the most experienced strikers around he guided the ball into the far corner sparking celebrations which will live long in the memory for those who made the long trip North.
Upon receiving the award, Jamie Sneddon said:
“It was one of the most unbelievable moments of my career so far and I still can’t quite believe it happened to be honest.
“As a goalkeeper you don’t expect to even get the chance to score a goal so I’ve no idea what was going through my mind as I headed the ball. Thankfully it went in the corner and we got a point from a game where we hadn’t played our best.
“Since then we’ve won three out of four games which is pretty good going. There are still aspects for us to improve in our performances but now, with almost everyone back from injury, we’re looking to find some consistency and string a run of results together.”
