Joint Statement from Club Board and TJF

Yesterday afternoon the Club Board and representatives from The Jags Foundation had an open, candid, and comprehensive discussion about the future direction of the football club.

We are still in the relatively early days of fan ownership, and inevitably there will be missteps on that journey. Passions can sometimes run high, precisely because everyone involved cares deeply about Thistle and wants to see the club succeed.

The representatives from The Jags Foundation at the meeting are satisfied that several of their, and other supporters’, key concerns were properly aired and understood.

In particular, important clarifications were arrived at on the trustees’ expectations about:

  • the operation of the Club-Trust Agreement
  • financial reporting
  • the budget process
  • communication between the Club Board and the trustees
  • communication between the Club Board and wider fanbase

Discussions are ongoing about how best to ensure open lines of communication between the Club Board and the trustees. As an interim measure, the trustees have been invited to attend Club Board meetings as observers over the summer.

More permanent arrangements for consistent information sharing and accountability will be developed by the Governance Working Group. There will be further discussions between the Club Board and trustees about how best to reflect fan representation on the Club Board, learning lessons from the experience to date.

The Club has also committed to take steps to strengthen its senior leadership team, through the recruitment of a new finance director, as well as to seek to strengthen its media and communications experience at board level. It is accepted that the Club needs to get better at communicating the roles and responsibilities of its senior leadership team, to allow for accountability to the trustees and wider fanbase.

The Club Board has further accepted that the delays in budget-setting, seen this summer, must not be repeated, and further discussions on the 2025-26 budget will take place later this week.

There remains much to be optimistic about at Partick Thistle. We are all united behind Mark Wilson and his desire to build a hungry, young and determined team at Firhill in the year ahead. Every season ticket makes a difference and, if you’ve not bought or renewed yours yet, join the red and yellow army for 2025-26.

It has been a challenging period for the Club in recent weeks, and things do not always go to plan. But what we all share is a burning desire to make our football club successful on the park and financially sustainable and well run off it.
