Keown: Pleased with a clean sheet but it should have been three points

Niall Keown made his Thistle debut in the Jags’ 0-0 draw with Inverness yesterday. The young centre half certainly didn’t give much away and looked very impressive on his way to keeping a clean sheet. Niall spoke to ptfc.co.uk on the team bus back down the A9 to tell us what he thought of his first 90 minutes in a Thistle jersey.

Niall said: “It was great to make my debut and the clean sheet was really satisfying too. Having said that we are all a bit disappointed not to take all three points today. With a performance like that you really expect to have done enough to come away with the win. That’s how it is sometimes though and the positives are that it was a solid performance, we got the clean sheet and came away with a point into the bargain.”

It was a young back four that managed to shut Inverness out but despite their age Niall felt comfortable in his position.

“We’ve done a lot of shape work this week and have got to know each other through that. We all knew our jobs and I think that showed today. There’s still things we can improve on though and we all know that. We just need to keep building on these kinds of performances and hopefully add goals to that too.”

Thistle moved into the top six with a point and for Niall maintaining that position has to be the aim for the season.

“We need a few wins to solidify our position in that top six but if we can get those then we might very well look back on today as a very good point. Our focus now switches to St Johnstone on Wednesday and we’ll be doing everything we can to take all three points from that match.”
