There were plenty of candidates for the McCrea Financial Services April Player of the Month award after five games unbeaten and 14 goals scored but it ended up being a head-to-head between a couple of the team’s top creative forces.
In the end it was Kyle Turner who came out on top, narrowly beating Steven Lawless to earn his second prize of the 2022/23 season having previously won the December 2022 award.
What really caught the eye though were his latter two performances of April as he left a significant mark on games against Hamilton Accies and Arbroath.
Firstly, against Accies, he set up Brian Graham for the opening goal and went on to create four further chances as he proved to be the Jags’ most consistent attacking threat at the ZLX Stadium.
Seven days on and he had his scoring boots on as the midfielder notched a couple of goals in a 2-0 triumph over Arbroath. The first was a deft header from a Steven Lawless cross while the second was a well-taken left-footed finish set up by Scott Tiffoney.
Upon receiving the award, Kyle said:
“I’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who voted for me but I’m sure there were a few people who were finding it hard to make up their mind because it’s been a real team effort over this recent run of games.
“That’s what you need at this time of the season, you can’t think about yourself – it has to be about the team and I think you’ve seen the whole squad buying into that.
“Our results in April have put us in a pretty good position heading into this last game and now it’s up to us to keep that going and finish the season strongly. All we can do is go and try to get a result against Raith Rovers to give us the best chance of finishing as high up the table as possible.”
