Partick Thistle are pleased to announce that teenage defender Liam Dolan has stepped up from the Partick Thistle Youth Academy and signed a two-year modern apprenticeship with the club.
Liam, who has been with The Jags since he was eight and is now 16, scored a long-range goal last season as the Thistle youngsters triumphed in The Foyle Cup and was a stand-out as they secured further silverware in The CAS Cup.
This season the left sided centre back stepped out of his defensive duties to find the net when Rangers were seen off 5-3 in the Scottish FA Youth Cup with his progress rewarded with the opportunity to train with the First Team.
Academy director Craig Dargo said: “This is an exciting day for Liam who has been with us since December 2017 and during that time he was frequently played at a higher age level. Those games have helped develop him and the next stage in his development is to train regularly with the First Team. He will be doing that soon.”
“Liam has seen his academy team-mates Matty Falconer, Jamie Low, Nick Lockhart, Ben McKenna Liam Rooney involved in senior games for Partick Thistle, and Cieran Loney earn a move to Everton.”
“That has inspired him, and he now has a great platform to build on.”
In his capacity as under-18 coach Mark Wilson added: “Liam’s talent and subsequent potential was identified at a young age and that allowed him to be tested at higher level. He excelled in these games and has been a standout for our under-18 side this season.”
“I have enjoyed working with him and I am looking forward to seeing how he progresses.”
