Partick Thistle FC is delighted to announce the signing of Liam Smith on a season-long loan deal from Swansea City, subject to Scottish FA approval and international clearance.
The 20-year-old attacker is returning to his homeland having been a product of Kilmarnock’s youth academy before signing for Manchester City in 2020.
Capped by Scotland at multiple age levels, Liam has featured in the Under 18 Premier League and the Premier League 2 winning the former twice and the latter once during his time in Manchester.
He made the switch to South Wales in January 2023, joining on a two-and-a-half year deal.
Thistle manager Kris Doolan said:
“Liam is a player who Paul, our assistant manager, knew from his time as the Academy director at Kilmarnock so that connection got the ball rolling and we were able to get Liam in for a few days of training this week which gave us a good chance to look at him.
“In terms of a footballing education, he’s been at one of the world’s academies for three years and then spent a further year-and-a-half at another really good club so he’s been well-coached and had the opportunity to play with and against a whole host of quality players.
“Now, of course, it’s a different kettle of fish as he looks to make an impact at first team level in the Scottish Championship but he’s got the traits to do really well. We’re really pleased to have him for the season.”
