LOAN NEWS: James Lyon joins Stenhousemuir for 2021/22 campaign

Partick Thistle can today confirm that James Lyon will join Stenhousemuir on loan for the 2021/22 season, subject to Scottish FA clearance.

James, who signed a two-year modern apprentice contract with the Club in May, heads to Ochilview to gain further first team experience having made his senior debut last season.

Lyon’s Jags bow was a very brief substitute appearance against Forfar Athletic at Station Park in December but the 18-year old played more significant minutes from the bench against Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Cup and at Montrose on the final day of the season when he provided an assist for Joe Cardle’s goal in the 3-2 defeat.

Thistle manager Ian McCall said:

“James is a player who we see a lot of potential in and it wasn’t an easy decision to let him go out on loan because we genuinely believe he’s not far off first team level, however, this is a good opportunity for him to go out and get consistent first team minutes. He has natural talent with a lot of skills that you can’t really teach.

“Although they are completely different types of footballer, I see a lot of similarities between James and Stuart Bannigan when he went out on loan to Ayr United as a youngster. Stuart’s loan spell was the making of him as a player and we hope that James has equal success at Stenhousemuir.”
