Loan news: Tony Weston joins on season-long loan

Partick Thistle FC are pleased to announce the signing of Tony Weston on a season-long loan deal from Rangers, subject to Scottish FA clearance.

The Liverpool-born striker joins the Jags following a mightily impressive season for the Rangers B team wherein he scored 35 goals.

Weston, who started out as a youth player with Blackpool, was a key player for Rangers B as they finished second in the Lowland League behind Bonnyrigg Rose.

His red-hot form was recognised in the form of his first team Gers debut, which he made at Tynecastle as a 71st minute substitute on the final day of the Premiership season.

Thistle manager Ian McCall said:

“We’ve been looking for another striker to add to our group and we’re very happy to welcome Tony to the club. The numbers tell you that he knows where the back of the net is and at just 18, he’ll be keen to come here and impress.

“He certainly offers something completely different to Brian Graham and Anton Dowds. He’s got a bit more pace and agility and I think we need to have that option in the squad. It’ll be a step up for him, without a doubt, but I believe he’ll be able to adapt and be an important player for us.”

Tony will wear the number 17 shirt during his time at Firhill.

An interview with our latest signing will be available to watch on JagZone shortly.
