Partick Thistle Football Club is excited to announce that Luke McBeth has signed a contract extension with the club which will keep him at the Wyre Stadium at Firhill until the summer of 2027, subject to Scottish FA clearance.
Luke joined the club on an 18-month deal on New Year’s Day following an extensive trial period training with the first team squad at the back end of 2023.
Signing from Glenafton Athletic, the 24-year-old’s footballing background also includes time spent in the United States playing college football with the Lindenwood Lions and the Monmouth Hawks.
McBeth made his Jags debut off the bench in a 3-2 win over Queen’s Park a couple of days after signing and would earn a first start for the club the following month in a 3-3 draw against Inverness going on to win the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award for February.
Having played in midfield to start his Thistle career, Luke made the move into central defence during March and that transition coincided with an upturn in overall and defensive form for the team as they went seven games unbeaten, conceding just twice on that run.
Luke continued to play a pivotal role for Kris Doolan’s side during the play-offs, scoring a remarkable equaliser from 25 yards in the first leg of the Premiership play-off quarter-finals against Airdrieonians at the Excelsior Stadium – his first senior goal.
Now, as McBeth prepares to partake in his first pre-season as a professional footballer, the club are delighted to secure his services until 2027.
Thistle manager Kris Doolan said:
“When we brought Luke in on trial late last year we were all really impressed with what we saw from him and the impact he’s had at the club over the past few months has been outstanding.
“I know myself that it’s a big step up going from the Juniors to the second tier but Luke has taken it in his stride. We’ve asked him to play in midfield and in defence and he hasn’t looked out of place whatsoever in either of those positions.
“He wins so many headers and makes so many blocks but he showed in that game at Airdrie that he’s got a proper shot in his locker too. I’m so excited to see what Luke can do in his first full season with the club!”
