It’s been a busy six weeks for the Jags since returning to competitive action for the 2021/22 campaign. After a dramatic opening day win in the cinch Championship on the last day in August, Thistle enjoyed a successful month which saw the Jags rise to 2nd in the league table. A dominant display at East End Park saw Ian McCall’s men run out 3-0 winners in Fife before crashing back to ground with defeat at Gayfield against Arbroath. On a sunny afternoon at Firhill, where over 3,000 fans returned home to Maryhill, the Jags ran out comfortable 3-0 winners to finish the month on a high.
With some terrific football on display throughout August, there are four worthy candidates for the August McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award.
Stuart Bannigan
The Jags midfielder has been a consistent performer during the opening stages of the campaign with his confident performances helping to provide the foundations towards the Jags success on the pitch. As Banzo closes in on his 300th appearance in red and yellow, his strong start to the campaign earns him a nomination.
Brian Graham
The Jags number nine ended last season with red hot form and has started this season with another ruthless streak in front of goal. His all-action style of play makes him a fans favourite with the Firhill faithful while playing a key part within the attacking play demonstrated by the Jags. Brian netted his 7th goal of the campaign with a powerful header in Thistle’s 3-0 rout against Greenock Morton.
Kevin Holt
Kevin Holt – goal machine! Few would have imagined the impact that Kevin Holt would have had on both sides of the team when he put pen to paper earlier this summer. Playing as part of a central defensive partnership which is starting to flourish, Kevin has been pivotal to the two clean sheets kept by the Thistle rearguard during August. With a commanding presence in both boxes, Kevin found the back of the net twice with two headers from set pieces – long may it continue.
Kyle Turner
How may I assist you? That’s the question being asked by Kyle Turner as he popped up with a whopping four assists in a single month. His set piece delivery has been outstanding and contributed to no fewer than four goals from a corner in a single month – the highest tally over the same period for a number of years. Kyle has hit the ground running since signing with the Jags over the summer striking up a key midfield partnership with Ross Docherty and Stuart Bannigan. Does he earn your vote?
