The cinch Championship campaign got into full swing for Partick Thistle who were in action five times during the month of August.
The first of four Firhill fixtures saw Hamilton Accies take a point away despite relentless pressure from the Jags to secure three more valuable league points. A trip to Ochilview to face Queen’s Park on a stiflingly hot day saw Thistle edged out in a five goal thriller.
A home triple header concluded the month with Thistle putting on a show in front of the live BBC cameras with a 4-1 victory against Inverness Caledonian Thistle. It was a more nervy affair against Raith Rovers but three points were secured with a 2-1 success. A Premier Sports Cup quarter-final slot was grabbed courtesy of victory against Arbroath.
With a number of exciting performances on display throughout August, there is stiff competition for the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month for August and it is up to Thistle fans to decide from our four nominees.
Brian Graham
It’s been a flying start to the season for the Jags number nine who has made his impact on the team in the final third. Revitalised with a new contract extension, Brian netted three times during the course of August, while also teeing up three more strikes with assists. A live television game with Inverness Caledonian Thistle saw Brian net twice as Thistle put on a show for the watching public.
Steven Lawless
The influential creator is back to his best in red and yellow. Steven Lawless has started the season in fine form and has been at the heart of the action for the Club in the attacking areas of the pitch. After netting his first Thistle goal since 2018 in July, Steven added a second goal to his tally with the match winning strike against Raith Rovers. With strong, creative performances, Stevie rounded off August with consecutive Man of the Match awards.
Cole McKinnon
The Rangers loanee has settled in the heart of the midfield quickly and has become a reliable option for Ian McCall to select on matchday. The tireless midfielder has injected energy into the middle of the park with lung bursting runs forward in support of the strikers. Cole has come close to adding to his single Thistle strike over the last month and will be looking to add more goal action to his record over the season ahead.
Jack McMillan
A second successive nomination for the Thistle fullback indicates how consistent his performances have been since he returned to red and yellow. A constant threat down the right hand side of the pitch, Jack was the last Jag standing to play every minutes this season. Adept in defence and ruthless in attack, McMillan netted his second goal of the season in our match against Queen’s Park in a month that saw him feature at both right back and centre-half for the team.
