It’s been an action-packed start to 2023 for Ian McCall’s Partick Thistle side. The Jags have played four games this month which have included a league win over Greenock Morton and a nail-biting penalty shootout triumph over Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup.
Now, it is time to pick the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month for January from the following four nominees:
Aidan Fitzpatrick
Following an impressive end to December, Aidan Fitzpatrick has continued his sparkling form in the New Year. It was the winger’s forward-thinking run and shot which earned the Jags a penalty against Morton to open the scoring and then it was his pinpoint finish off the post which drew Thistle level against Dunfermline.
Harry Milne
A perennial Player of the Month nominee, Harry Milne has been a hugely important part of the Thistle team since arriving in the summer and January has been no different. The full-back’s standout performance of the month came at home against Dunfermline when he put in a tremendous 120 minute shift as the Maryhill men progressed in the Scottish Cup and he even got involved in Thistle’s goal with his header allowing Danny Mullen to set up Aidan Fitzpatrick.
Jamie Sneddon
There was no goalscoring this month for Jamie Sneddon but the Thistle number one made up for that with some truly fantastic goalkeeping. Like Harry, his highlights of January came against Dunfermline at Firhill. At 0-0 he made a save right out of the top drawer to deny Craig Wighton from close range and then when the game went to penalties, he was able to make a crucial save rom Matthew Todd’s spot kick to give Anton Dowds the chance to win it.
Kyle Turner
December’s award winner has earned himself the chance to go back-to-back with some more formidable performances in the Thistle midfield. It was Kyle’s corner which caused chaos in the Morton box in the 89th minute and led to the winning goal, another in a string of assists in recent games for the former Stranraer man. Then he showed that he doesn’t always have to be setting them up as he confidently smashed home a penalty kick in the shootout against Dunfermline.
So, those are your nominees for the January McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award.
