McCrea Financial Services March Player of the Month

With five points from three league games and a Scottish Cup quarter final on paper March would look like a tremendous month for the Jags but with late goals costing Thistle points at home to Inverness and away to Kilmarnock there was an unavoidable sense of disappointment as the players went into the international break.

Despite the sense of “what could have been” though there was still plenty to celebrate from the month of March. Thistle remained in sixth position for the entire month, the club maintained a two point cushion over seventh placed Kilmarnock and extended an unbeaten league record to seven games. It was with these positives in mind that the final four nominees for the March McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month were made:

Kris Doolan

Doolan picked up where he left off last month with an excellent assist against Dundee to earn all three points at Dens Park and a goal that looked all but certain to secure all three points at home to Inverness. The talismanic number nine now sits on 99 goals in red and yellow and looks destined to write himself into the record books as the club’s top league goal scorer. Another excellent month for the fans’ favourite

Chris Erskine

Scoring his ninth goal of the season against Kilmarnock, Chris “Squiddy” Erskine looked back to his very best at times this month. A creative force wherever he played along the attacking midfield line, on his day Chris can terrify defences. With strong performances against Dundee, Inverness and Kilmarnock the Jags number 10 was more than worthy of his nomination.

Niall Keown

The on loan centre back really got into his stride in March playing like a defender far beyond his tender years. Indeed his partnership with Lindsay represented one of the youngest centre back pairings in the league but you would never have known it watching the two play.

Liam Lindsay

The youngster may have to wait for his first Scotland call up but if he keeps his performance levels up it is surely only a matter of time. Liam certainly didn’t let the speculation phase him as he continued the excellent form he has shown in recent weeks in a season that has seen him develop into one of the country’s best young centre backs.
