McGinley joins on loan from Motherwell

Partick Thistle FC is pleased to announce the signing of defender Nathan McGinley on loan from Motherwell until January, subject to Scottish FA clearance.

A product of the Middlesborough youth system, McGinley got his first tastes of senior football during loan spells with Wycombe and Forest Green Rovers before turning his stint with the latter into a permanent one.

He departed The New Lawn in 2020 to make the move to Motherwell where he played 24 times in his debut season as the Steelmen finished in 8th. The following season he featured 29 times en route to a 5th placed finish for the North Lanarkshire side.

The Englishman has been part of the Motherwell squad over the course of pre-season but has only made four substitute appearances so far this term and comes to Maryhill looking for more gametime.

Nathan will wear number 19 during his time at the club.

Thistle manager Kris Doolan said:

“We’ve been keen to get another defender in and we’re delighted to be able to add someone of Nathan’s quality. He’s worked hard so far this season taking part in every training session but hasn’t been able to get into that Motherwell team with them flying high at the moment in 4th.

“Nathan’s played the majority of his career at a really good level and he’ll come here with the aim of fighting for a spot in the team. All summer long we’ve wanted to get the right players in even if that takes a bit longer and I feel as if Nathan will be a great addition.”
