Message to supporters

Everyone connected to Partick Thistle FC has woken up with the most brilliant buzz and spring in their step after the first team sealed their place in this season’s cinch Premiership play-off final.

Never in a month of Fridays could we have envisaged the journey we would embark on this month, from Kirkcaldy to Firhill, Ochilview, Firhill again and then Somerset Park last night.

Alongside the quality of football on show, a constant feature has been the incredible backing of the red and yellow army, of all ages and backgrounds, roaring the team on throughout our play-off successes to date. All the management team, players and staff at Firhill unite in thanking each and every Jags fan for their outstanding support, which is a real difference-maker.

We now move on to the third and final stage of the cinch Premiership play-offs, starting at Firhill on Thursday night, and Kris and the players will count on exactly the same level of support from the stands, with us all in it together.

The club does need to address, however, some isolated incidents at both legs of our semi-final against Ayr United, which have caused delays to kick-offs and also endangered the safety of fellow supporters.

We can’t be clearer than to firmly state that no supporter should bring any pyrotechnics or flares to any matches at Firhill or to the Thistle section of any of our away games. Last night these caused minor injuries to fellow Jags fans, who required medical treatment, which is something we believe all supporters can agree is completely unacceptable. We pass on our best wishes to those fans who did require treatment.

Further, the throwing of any such devices or indeed any objects at matches including onto the field of play also endangers the safety of supporters, matchday staff, officials and players, and will not be tolerated by the club. Anyone attending a match at Firhill who partakes in such activities and is identified as doing so, will be removed from the stadium and be at risk of a permanent ban from Thistle matches.

Separately, we understand one supporter received emergency medical treatment at the train station after the match last night and was transferred to hospital for further care. Everyone at Firhill would like to pass on their very best wishes to this supporter and wish him a full, safe and speedy recovery.

Once again we thank all Thistle supporters for the positive colour, noise and backing they bring week in, week out, and we all move on to Thursday night together.
