With Partick Thistle Women’s FC almost ready for their first competitive game of the new season, against Celtic, there is one familiar face who will not be in the squad this weekend; Mhairi Hawksworth.
The striker, who was our longest serving player, left PTWFC at the end of last season after six years of fantastic service and, as a token of the club’s gratitude, she was presented with a Special Recognition Award earlier this week as she visited training.
Maz joined the club in our second season of existence and has been a Partick Thistle player ever since, playing a central part in the team’s climb through the divisions all the way up to the SWPL 2 where she became our first ever goalscorer at SWPL level by netting the equaliser in our 1-1 draw against Hamilton Accies in February 2019.
Mhairi won the club’s first Most Valuable Player award back in 2015 and was joint top goalscorer at the club as we secured promotion to the SWPL 2 in 2018, evidencing her vital role in team over these past six years.
Everyone at PTWFC wishes Mhairi all the best for the future and she is always welcome back to see us.
Once a Jag, always a Jag!
