Mouhamed Niang joins Hartlepool United

We can today confirm that Mouhamed ‘Sena’ Niang has left the club to join EFL League Two side Hartlepool United, subject to international clearance.

The 22-year-old made his first team debut in September 2019, starting as we beat Montrose 2-0 in the Challenge Cup.

Mouhamed then went on to have a loan spell with the Gable Endies before returning to Firhill to play a much more significant role during the 2020/21 League One season.

Featuring 22 times across the title-winning campaign, Niang impressed as he filled in at centre-half while the Thistle squad was struck by injury and his efforts were recognised with the McCrea Mortgages Player of the Month award for November 2020.

He fell out of the team at the back end of that season and with opportunities expected to be limited in the Championship, went out on loan to Alloa Athletic at the start of last season playing 34 times for the Wasps.

Now, Sena joins up with Paul Hartley at Hartlepool ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Thistle manager Ian McCall said:

“After a conversation with Sena it was clear he was looking for regular first team football. Our midfield area is probably our strongest part of the team so he wanted to move on to play regularly.

“He has shown what he’s capable of during the first half of our season in League One so hopefully he can find that form again as he heads down south. We wish him all the best for the future.”
