Mouhamed Niang signs contract extension until 2023

Partick Thistle can today confirm that Mouhamed Niang has signed a contract extension, keeping him with the club until 2023.

The 21-year-old midfielder joined the club officially in 2018 after an arduous work permit process having previously been a player at Pollok.

Since returning to Firhill following a loan spell with Montrose last season, Niang has impressed; producing a standout performance in a pre-season friendly at home to Hearts before going on to play a key part in our second goal against Queen’s Park in the Betfred Cup.

More recently, due to Thistle’s injury problems, Mouhamed has had to fill in at centre-half and he has excelled as part of a defensive unit which has kept five consecutive clean sheets and allowed just five shots on target in their last four games.

Now, the youngster has put pen to paper on a new deal which will see him stay at Firhill until at least 2023.

On the extension, Thistle boss Ian McCall said:

“I’m delighted that Sena has chosen to extend his stay with the club. Since reporting back for pre-season training in August, his attitude has been first class and he has worked incredibly hard to get his opportunity to get into the team.

“He has taken his chance to secure a starting jersey with both hands and he has put in a number of good performances over the last month. The hard work starts now though and we will work hard with him to improve him further as a player in the weeks and months ahead.”

Mouhamed spoke to JagZone shortly after putting pen to paper on his contract extension. JagZone subscribers can view it now.
