Murray pleased to be hitting the net

A 4-2 triumph over Airdrieonians at the Penny Cars Stadium represented a very good day at the office for Partick Thistle and rounded off a good week for the Jags and for midfielder Connor Murray. The number 17 came on as a sub and scored in our 3-0 win over Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Cup before following that up with a goal against the Diamonds, his second league strike since joining the club. Connor spoke to ptfc.co.uk ahead of Forfar’s midweek visit to Firhill:

“Everyone’s excited to get into the next game. These past two games have been great for the team and for me personally. I’ve been really happy to get those two goals and being able to help the team so hopefully we can all just carry that on into the game against Forfar.”

There isn’t time to dwell on the weekend’s successes with this clash with Forfar coming just three days after the trip to Airdrie but Connor says the depth that the Jags have will help deal with that.

“It’s challenging, of course, when you’ve got games coming so quickly but we’ve got a big squad now. The manager has the options to rotate a little bit knowing that the guys he brings into the team can do the job just as well as anyone else.

“The other side of having games so quickly is it can help you get into a rhythm and with the two wins we’ve managed in the last week, we’re hoping it turns into a long run.”

Murray’s two goals in the past two games have contributed to two good victories and the former Queen of the South man says he’s enjoying his football at the moment.

“Yeah, it’s great to get on the scoresheet. Personally, I feel that I haven’t played to my full potential this season but I’m feeling good now and hitting the back of the net was a great feeling in both matches. Even better, the goals helped us get wins so if I can keep contributing like that then great!”

With one of his strikes coming as a starter and one as a substitute, Murray says he’s more than happy to play either role as the Maryhill men look to climb the League One table.

“As I’ve said, there’s going to be rotation and I don’t think anyone will be playing every minute so if you do find yourself on the bench you need to be ready to come on and play your part. I think everyone in the squad understands that and we all just want to help the team win games however that happens.”

The Loons travel to Glasgow to face the Jags for the second time this season and Connor expects a very difficult game.

“They’re down near the bottom of the table just now but we know from experience that no game is easy in League One. We beat them 2-0 away from home in December but they made things very difficult for us and it took a while to get a breakthrough so we won’t take them lightly at all.

“It’s another three points on offer and while we really need those points, they’ll be desperate for them too so we have to be ready for a really difficult game.”
