It was a straight head-to-head for September’s McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month award between Harry Milne and Dan O’Reilly and it was Thistle’s Irish centre-half who came out on top with just under 60% of the vote.
O’Reilly has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2024/25 season, playing a key role in a Jags defence which has conceded just five goals in its opening seven William Hill Championship fixtures.
The defender’s standout performance of September came against Dunfermline Athletic at home where he helped the team to a clean sheet at one end while winning a header in midfield to set up Aidan Fitzpatrick’s winner at the other end.
Upon receiving the award, Dan said:
“First and foremost, thanks to everyone who voted for me. I feel like I’ve made a good start to the season personally and it’s nice to have that recognised.
“That being said, results definitely haven’t been good enough overall, and September was mixed bag. I think all the players know that we’ve not played anywhere near our best yet, even when we’ve managed to win, and that’s something we want to put right over the next few weeks.
“We’ve got three home games in a row, and this is an opportunity for us to show everyone what we’re really about. They’ll all be challenging games, but we have to go into each match with the aim of getting three points.”
O’Reilly, who became a father recently when partner Aneka gave birth to baby Rosie in July, chose the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity to receive a donation from award sponsor McCrea Financial Services. Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity is one of McCrea Financial Services’ charity partners for the 2024/25 fundraising year, the charity now benefitting from an additional donation thanks to the Thistle men’s team number 20.
He said: “It’s a great gesture from McCrea Financial Services to provide this gesture of support, which I was determined would be directed to a Glasgow-based charity close to Partick Thistle.
“Being a new Dad who now has even more appreciation of the importance of family, the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity was the obvious choice. I hope the donation and any additional profile from it is a boost for the charity as they continue the great work they do.”
