PARTICK THISTLE FOOTBALL MEMORIES GROUP.

The Partick Thistle Football Memories Group was set up to help football fans of all persuasions who live locally, or Thistle fans in the Greater Glasgow area who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s/Dementia, have memory problems or are perhaps feeling isolated.

Research has shown that talking about football players or famous matches from the past can rekindle/activate memories in people suffering from Alzheimer’s/Dementia. this helps them engage in discussions about the game, through memories that have been triggered.

The group use picture cards of famous players/teams from the past, football books, match day programmes and YouTube videos to help prompt discussions that everyone can join in with.

We also on occasion have past players who will come along and talk about their football career and share stories of great games they participated in and the players they played with and against. This again can prompt engagement within the group.

The Partick Thistle Football Memories Group is affiliated to Football Memories Scotland which is run from Hampden Park. It works closely with Alzheimer’s Scotland who have a representative present at every meeting. They are happy to chat with carers/family members, answer questions on the condition and advise where additional support and advice can be obtained.

Please contact Jan Watson, (email:   , mobile number: 07407 814641) if you are interested in bringing a family member along or simply come along to a meeting at The Wyre Stadium At Firhill, on the second Tuesday of the month.

Next meeting – Tuesday, September 9 Starting time is 10:30am in the 71 Club Lounge (enter via the back of the Jackie Husband Stand).

Tea/coffee and biscuits are also provided along with a warm welcome.
