JOB TITLE: Assistant Academy Sport Scientist

REPORTING TO: Reports to Academy Director & Head of Academy Sport Science

LOCATION: Firhill Stadium / Petershill Park / Springburn Park

HOURS: Part-Time evenings (the role requires to successful candidate to be flexible and may occasionally be required to work weekends)

SALARY: Dependant on experience

JOB PURPOSE

Partick Thistle Youth Academy have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Academy Sports Scientist to join our multi-disciplinary support team. The purpose of the role is to assist in the development and implementation of the Academy’s Sports Science plan in line with the Academy’s overall strategy.

Focus will primarily be on the development of the following areas of support;

  • Sports Science – including physiology, biomechanics, physical testing and measurement.
  • Strength and conditioning – pitch & gym-based work.
  • Diet and nutrition.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assist the Head of Academy Sport Science in delivering all relevant aspects in line with the Club’s objectives
  • To work in tandem with all other Sports Science, Medical staff and Coaching staff.
  • Provide sport science support to U15-16 players on training days.
  • Provide sport science support for U15-16 players undergoing the rehabilitation process.
  • Assist with sport science support for U10-16 players.
  • To assist in the usage of GPS systems within the academy.
  • To assist the Head of Academy Sport Science with regards to sport science / strength and conditioning programmes for all age groups in the Academy
  • To implement effective testing in the following areas guided by the Head of Academy Sport Science; age appropriate physical screening, anthropometric assessments, physiological/fitness testing, predictive testing of size and shape/maturation measurement.

 

MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education/Qualifications/Training:

Essentials

  • BSc in Sports Science or sub-discipline.

Desirables

  • MSc in a related discipline.
  • Holder of the Children’s Wellbeing in Scottish Football E-Learning certificate
  • Sports First Aid qualification

Specific Experience:

  • Excellent IT skills and experience in use of all Microsoft Office products.
  • Committed and driven by deadlines and results.
  • Experience working with youth athletes or within elite footbalL

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:

  • Committed, enthusiastic and passionate about Partick Thistle Football Club.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as using one’s own initiative.
  • Able to communicate effectively with players, parents and fellow staff members at all levels.
  • Able to adapt to the demands of the job and needs of the players / coaches.

Additional Information:

  • This is a part time role (approx. 14 hours per week).
  • Applicants must be eligible to live and work in the UK
  • The role will have regular contact with children, and it is therefore required by law to have a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check through Disclosure Scotland as a condition of employment.
