Player Update – 4th May 2022

Following the conclusion of the 2021/22 campaign for a number of Thistle players who are currently out on loan, we can provide a player update.

Ross MacIver and Shea Gordon will leave the Club upon expiry of their contracts later this month.

Ross joined the Club, originally on loan, last season and spent the second half of this campaign on loan with League One side Alloa Athletic featuring regularly for the Wasps.

Shea has been a Jag since the summer of 2018 and over the course of four seasons in red and yellow featured 76 times for club, netting 14 goals. The 23 year old midfielder spent the latter half of the 2021/22 campaign on loan with Queen of the South.

Blair Lyons, who is still involved in Montrose’s promotion bid to the Championship, will join the Gable Endies permanently having already signed a pre-contract agreement with Montrose.

James Lyon, Gospel Ocholi, Billy Owens and Mason McCready will all return from their loan spells and remain part of the Thistle squad for next season as they serve the second year of their modern apprenticeship.

We thank Ross, Shea and Blair for their contributions in red and yellow and wish them the very best for their respective futures in the game.

Thistle manager Ian McCall said:

“It’s that time of the year where tough decisions have to be made as we look to build a squad for next season. With a few players out on loan, and their seasons at an end, I felt it would have been unfair to delay telling them about their futures until our play-off journey had concluded.

“Ross, Shea and Blair are all out of contract this summer and we wish them well with all of their footballing endeavours in the future. Mouhamed Niang has another year in his contract but we won’t stand in his way if he can find another Club this summer as he is at a vital stage in his development and needs gametime that we can’t promise him at Firhill.”
