Douglas McCrea has informed the board of directors of Partick Thistle FC that he has decided not to stand for re-election at the AGM this Thursday evening.
Richard Beastall said on behalf of the club board: “We would like to thank Douglas for stepping up and offering his significant business experience to the club at a crucial point in our history. He has played a key role in bringing stability to Partick Thistle over the last seven months.
“Whilst we would like to have benefitted from his input for longer, we accept his decision to leave now and look forward to welcoming him back to the Wyre Stadium at Firhill on future matchdays as a supporter and valued club sponsor.”
In announcing his resignation Douglas said: “I joined the board in June to help our club through an important and very challenging transitional phase.
“My original intention had been to serve no more than a year in post. Given the recent progress made in putting in place a strengthened board for the longer term it would now make sense for me to step aside as a director of the football club at the AGM rather than stay on for just a few additional months. This will allow the new board to move forward with no changes to the board in the early months. With this in mind I will not be seeking re-appointment at the forthcoming AGM.
“The club board have my full support going forward and I look forward to taking my place back in the Jackie Husband Stand and some form of normality returning to my Saturdays.”
Neil Drain, of majority shareholder the PTFC Trust, said: “We are grateful to Douglas for not only his longstanding support of the club but especially the benefit of his experience helping us through the last seven months and the early stages of the fan ownership journey.”
