April represented a first full month of top six action for Partick Thistle Women’s FC and with that has come an elite level of opposition on game-by-game basis as Brian Graham’s Jags test themselves against Scotland’s best.
Though Thistle weren’t able to take any points from games against Celtic, Rangers, Hibs and Glasgow City, there were plenty of encouraging signs and plenty of positives to take as the team went toe-to-toe with their post-split opponents.
All that has built towards Thistle getting their first result of the split at the start of May in a 1-1 draw with Hearts in Edinburgh.
Now though, it’s time to select who you felt was the standout performer during April and who deserves the club’s Player of the Month award.
The nominees are:
Megan Cunningham
Goalkeeper Megan Cunningham proved to be a key addition as Thistle earned a top six spot during the regular season and her experience of playing at the top level has shone through as the team takes on the league’s top sides with some impressive saves across the month. Her standout game probably came against Celtic in Airdrie when her stops helped to frustrate the high-flying Celts in a narrow loss and saw her names as BBC ALBA Player of the Match.
Demi Falconer
As ever, captain Falconer’s contribution has been crucial with the way she leads from the back pivotal to the defensive structure and organisation of the team. This has never been more obvious that against Glasgow City when she made countless tackles and blocks on her way to earning the BBC ALBA Player of the Match award.
Imogen Longcake
With Abbie Ferguson and Rachel Donaldson both missing games during April, it has meant opportunities for other players at the top of the pitch. One of those players is Imogen Longcake who started against Celtic, Rangers and HIbs before coming off the bench against Glasgow City. The forward has added a bit of something different to the Jags frontline and hasn’t shirked her defensive responsibilities while doing so.
Rosie Slater
It’s easy to forget that Rosie Slater is only 19 years old when you see the consistency in her performances at SWPL1 level. The intensity of the weekly challenges have only grown since the split but Slater standards have remained high, playing her part in some gutsy defensive displays during April, most notably against Celtic and Glasgow City.
